Merger to boost environmental education

Kids Teaching Kids and Earthwatch Australia have joined forces to provide end-to-end environmental and sustainability education opportunities for Australians.

The merger brings together Australia’s largest peer education program and experiential science-based learning experts into one formidable not-for-profit organisation.

Kids Teaching Kids Founder Arron Wood welcomed the unification, “Earthwatch is the ideal partner for us to continue to inspire future environmental leaders and empower people to take action to protect the natural world.”

“Kids Teaching Kids has motivated more than 145,000 students over two decades to research important environmental and sustainability issues and bring about real positive change in their communities.”

Cassandra Nichols, Earthwatch CEO, echoed the sentiment, “This is a very exciting merger. Environmental values and respect are learnt at a young age. The model of peer learning and the Kids Teaching Kids program is an exceptionally powerful way to embed sustainability into the minds of young Australians. When then combined with the experiential science programs that Earthwatch offers from formative school years to retirement, we are able to build a life-long environmental education pathway for Australians, empowering our society to live in balance with nature.”

Kids Teaching Kids events will continue into the future with Kids Teaching Kids Week in September and the Melbourne Kids Teaching Kids Conference in October.

“The new partnership enhances program offerings from both Earthwatch and Kids Teaching Kids, adding significant value to all those involved” says Earthwatch Australia Chair, Mat Nelson. “This union will help develop sustainability leaders, which are needed now more than ever.”

“It will provide additional opportunities for Kids Teaching Kids schools to be involved in Natural Resource Management education, mentoring and research opportunities with Earthwatch scientists that will drive on-ground environmental outcomes for decades to come” Mr Wood said.

ClimateWatch is a program that aims to understand how changes in temperature and rainfall are affecting the seasonal behaviour of Australia's plants and animals by monitoring changes in flowering times, breeding cycles and migration movement. Earthwatch Australia is partnering with researchers and social enterprises across Australia to deliver tiny forests, an accelerated and intensive planting process to bring biodiversity back into our cities.
Wetlands not Wastelands

In partnership with Coca Cola Australia Foundation, the Carpentaria Land Council Aboriginal Corporation, and Plastic Collective, Earthwatch provides training to 20 CLCAC Indigenous Land and Environment Rangers and 30 community volunteers to help deliver a first-of-its-kind marine pollution and wetland management program in the Lower Gulf of Carpentaria.
