Since 2020, Earthwatch Australia’s Kids Teaching Kids and DELWP have collaborated to deliver on the Victorian Distinctive Areas and Landscapes program. The initiative engages schools and community in hands on environmental activities to protect the environmentally and culturally significant spaces ‘at their front door’.

Funded by the Victorian Government’s Distinctive Areas and Landscapes Capital Grants Program, Earthwatch is working with local land managers and environmental stakeholders to provide teachers and students with immersive teaching and learning opportunities in the four distinct areas: Bass Coast, Bellarine Peninsula, Surf Coast and Macedon Ranges. Over 40 schools have been involved in the program as of 2021

Through the DAL reforms, we’re delivering better protection for some of Victoria’s most unique and special environments, and we’re really excited to work with Kids Teaching Kids.

The reforms are fundamentally about protecting these distinctive landscapes for future generations, so it’s wonderful to have young Victorians working with us.

Their passion and enthusiasm for local environments is inspiring for all of us at DELWP, and we look forward to seeing these teaching and learning opportunities come to life.
