Earthwatch is excited to collaborate with Swarovski Waterschool Australia to deliver educational outcomes for Western Sydney and metropolitan Melbourne. Throughout the school year, participants will work through four phases to become water conservation and environmental leaders through a four-stage process.  

First, they will conduct research and apply critical thinking to understand the issue in its full complexity – and grasp the behavioral change required to address it.  

Then, they will connect with traditional custodians of the land to explore the value of water through First Nations people and culture, and further broaden their understanding by speaking with local authorities, government representatives and environmental organizations.  

Armed with knowledge, they will then develop workshops for other children to reflect on learnings and transform it into action.  

Finally, project participants will become leaders, encouraging peers to follow their example, while seeing to the completion of goals to create positive impact. 

Swarovski Waterschool will support the project along the way by continuing to empower students through virtual education and events, to ensure our younger Australian generations are encouraged to stand up for their own, and our planet’s, future.

The Swarovski Waterschool program was established in Austria in 2000. What began as a local project has since evolved into a global initiative and reached more than 740,000 young people to date. Using innovative teaching methods and its own curriculum, Swarovski Waterschool works with local partners to address global water and sanitation issues. Its mission is to educate and empower future generations to treasure and protect the world’s most precious resource and inspire them to become leaders in sustainable development.  

Swarovski Waterschool is a global project, situated in eight countries within watershed areas of the Danube, Ganges, Yangtze, Nile, Amazon, Chao Phraya, Mississippi and now Parramatta rivers. The program has engaged and trained more than 15,000 teachers in 2,500 schools globally. It contributes to the fulfilment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, with a special focus on Clean Water and Sanitation, Quality Education and Partnership for the Goals.
